Ifnicity

Introducing a new blog! Half of this blog team, Rex F. May, AKA Baloo (speaking) has teamed with Perry Glasgow, who does the Glaswegian Observer blog, to produce Ifnicity. Ifnicity is an alternate history blog, which will review alternate history fiction (two reviews up so far) and speculate about the genre and about actual history and how it might have been otherwise.

Ever since I first came across MacKinlay Kantor's If the South Had Won the Civil War years ago, I've realized that a full understanding of history necessitates an understanding of the causes and effects of historical events. And one of the best ways to dig into that is to speculate about the alternatives. Supposed Lincoln hadn't been shot? Suppose FDR had been? What if Crockett had survived the Alamo? Or Custer survived Little Big Horn? What if Hitler had gotten into art school? Consider where we'd be now if JFK had blundered in the debates and Nixon was elected in 1960.

You see what I mean. Do check Ifnicity out for that sort of thing.
