Confiscatory Foreign Policy

It's long been a tradition for grubby little dictators in the Third World to line their pockets by confiscating the property and assets of foreigners, often having thought up quite reasonable rationales for why they should do it. It's usually freedom or democracy or something. Some kind of noble principle.

Well, we're clearly shambling into the Third World ourselves, partly by importing as many Third World people as possible (they make great Democratic voters), and partly by emulating the political practices of the Third World. Massive overspending of borrowed money is always a good bet, and using a lot of that money to get people dependent on government largess is a natural development. And it certainly helps to have a President with deep family roots in the Third World, with a Marxist anthropology student's cultural relativism ethic. Also, when your middle class people get cocky, you can just hike their taxes to drive them out of the middle class, and make them, too, into reliable wards of the government.

And, back to the beginning of this, we are now confiscating the property, not of mad mullahs or actual criminals, but of Russians. As Jerry Pournelle points out, this has an effect on our perceived trustworthiness. On the other hand, maybe Obama can use the confiscated money to subsidize health insurance for illegal aliens, who will vote Democratic and help with the harrowing of the middle class. It's win-win.
Quibcag: The quote is from Jerry Pournelle's blog HERE, and is part of a longer post. Do read it. And the illustration is the gang from Lupin III (ルパン三世 Rupan Sansei), a group also very adept at taking other people's money.

  1. The only kind of people who like to hike the middle class people's taxes are the republicans, dems prefer to hike only the corporations and millionaires' ones.
