Japanese Robots

What is it about Japan and robots?  When I was a kid, the whole robot idea was, or seemed to be, an exclusively American thing, and now all of a sudden, when you hear "robot," you think Japan. Even on King of the Hill a few years back, Hank's long lost Japanese half-brother turned out to be a robotics specialist. And we all know about Gigantor and Astroboy, and a few of us know about mini-robot Sumomo there in the illustration, paying homage to Barbara Eden. What is the explanation for their obsession with robots?  Other than the obvious, I mean. The answer may surprise you. Vulture of Critique has it HERE.

  1. Sci-fi scenarios aside, robots are less likely to murder you in your sleep than "guest-workers".
