Putin — Peaking Too Soon?

Guest post by Baloo:

Здравствуйте, мои русские друзья!

The "Putin for President" thing started out as a complete joke, like "Pogo for President" or "Pat Paulsen for President." (I guess having a name beginning with "P" helps.) But unlike the others, there's an actual underlying plausibility to a Vladimir Putin presidency. After all, he is a president already, and a damned effective one as near as I can tell.  And, seriously, we haven't had a president with a résumé anything like as good as his since George Bush Sr. Putin is also, in contrast to Clinton, Bush II, and Obama, a definite grownup. The fact that Putin spent much of his life as a nominal communist is getting less and less important, considering Obama's effective ideology. (Yes, I realize that Obama doesn't actually have an ideology any more than Caligula or Al Capone did, but his handlers, now, they're hard-core Marxists of the big-shot capitalist variety.)

When I came across the graphic above over at Gates of Vienna, I got to thinking that maybe the joke element is receding a bit and there's an edge of seriousness developing.  Take a look at the prospects for the next election. You want Vlad or Hillary?  See what I mean?  And, as for the Republicans, there's a lot of talk about Rand Paul, who has a lot of good points but sure as hell doesn't look tough. And the same is true of Ted Cruz, who also has a citizenship problem reminiscent of Obama's.  If I had to put money down right now, I'd expect it to be Jeb Bush, and the country, nay, the world, has had all the Bushes it needs for a century or so.
Этот плакат переводится на русский ЗДЕСЬ.

So here's my attempt at a campaign poster for Vlad.  I replaced my own weak attempt at a caricature with an actual photo to make it look more serious, and his good points listed are serious. Taking them one by one, all our recent presidents and all their likely successors are completely uninterested in guarding our border. And they have little interest in protecting Americans abroad, and would much prefer to protect foreigners. Many of them are quite "tolerant" about all the Heather Has Two Mommies business. Putin jails people like Marc Rich instead of pardoning them. And, of course, the big debate right now is what is best for Syria and Israel and every other country except ours. So Vlad is looking better and better. Do send in suggestions for hius other good points.

And I received just such a suggestion, that led me to revise the poster, here:

  1. My only reservation about Putin as the president of the United States is that he is a Russian, through and through. As such, he will always be looking out for the interests of Russians. Don't take it wrongly, this is a good thing, provided one is leading Russia. It is the same reason why, while I respect Lee Kuan Yew as a statesman, I would never want him to lead the United States.

But I think we need a president with a strong sense of connection to this country and its historic majority, who have defined its institutions and culture. As such, Putin simply wouldn't fit the bill, although he would still probably be a better president than Obama, by virtue of not sharing our current president's seething hatred of the White Christian founders of this country.

I think having a leader with the best qualities of Vladimir Putin and Lee Kuan Yew, who was still an American through and through, would be ideal. And I know such men must exist in this country. But the media, dominated as it is by cultural Marxists, would do everything it could to keep that leader's existence from becoming public knowledge. They like their puppet rulers, who will spout platitudes about human rights and democracy, while ignoring their own people's wishes to stay out of foreign wars fought on behalf of monstrous barbarians.

So since Putin has the advantage of name recognition, and he's sure as hell better than any of the other jokers being put forth as contenders, why not? Putin for President!

    2. Well it doesn't seem to matter any more where the pres is born since we don't have a Constitution any more. But you're right Putin will do what's right for the Russian people and not for the powers that be and that's a very good thing. I just wish we could find a leader like that!
