But like all human beings, Gypsies belong to a culture, and cultures differ. They have different norms, different languages, different moral codes, different religions, different marriage customs, etc. And, obviously, some pairs of cultures are more compatible than other pairs of cultures. To be clear, Danes and Norwegians are slightly different culturally, but when you put them in juxtaposition to each other, they don't automatically break out into riots. This is because Danish culture doesn't require things that outrage Norwegians and vice-versa. However, when you put, say, Aztecs and Quakers together, you're going to have trouble. Quakers have a hard time ignoring all the human sacrifice, and all that drab Quaker clothing irritates the Aztecs.
But, it's not so much that Gypsy culture doesn't fit in well with other cultures (though it doesn't), but, being stateless nomads, the Gypsy culture has evolved to be a parasitic culture. That is, Gypsies as a group aren't capable of autonomy — If you gave the whole nation of them an island of their own, they couldn't survive unless they totally changed their culture. Because, economically, they do live as swindlers and thieves. Criminality isn't a subset of Gypsy culture, like it is with most human groups, but the core of Gypsy culture. They're not unique in that respect, but they're the most visible group within Western culture that can be described that way.
And now that all the self-destructive nations in the West have gone gung-ho for open borders, Gypsies are more mobile than ever, and are especially taking advantage of this new freedom of mobility to move from Eastern Europe, where they wore out their welcome long ago, to Western Europe and Britain, where there are oodles of naive new victims to take advantage of. Steve Sailer writes:
Immigration restrictionism is growing in popularity in Britain because Romanians and Bulgarians are supposed to get complete freedom to move to Britain in 2014. Brits are particularly worried about Roma Romanians: i.e., Gypsies. If you want to see what Gypsies typically live like, check out Borat's hometown in the 2006 movie. Simon Baron Cohen filmed "Borat" in an Eastern European Gypsy village. (Of course, later on in the film he portrayed stereotyping Gypsies as obviously irrational and evil.)
However, some Gypsies have gotten rich, as depicted in this fabulous pictorial in the New York Times devoted, as always, to Smashing Stereotypes: (See the pictorial and more HERE.)

A friend I served with in the military, a Croatian immigrant (not refugee) told me a story about growing up in the former Yugoslavia; he and a friend were leaving a video game arcade, only to get a wave of bad vibrations when an old car full of gypsy men started following them down the street.
ReplyDeleteHis friend shouted "Run!" and as they took off the car started chasing after them - they ducked and dodged and managed to get away from it.
The next day the arcade parlour was gone; emptied out overnight.
His best guess was that they were trying to kidnap them to be underage male sex slaves.
So when you read this: "For example, one of the first acts of our allies in the Kosovo Liberation Front in 1999 after we bombed Serbia into submission for them was to ethnically cleanse the Gypsies from Kosovo," you need to put it in context.
Indeed. Is that quote from Steve Sailer's piece, or from this blog quoting HIM? At any rate, is IS in context here:

At any rate, any country that tries it drive Gypsies out is behaving rationally.
I lived for almost 20 years with a gypsy community right next door. I will not bother you with all the catalog of bad experiences derived from that. Suffice to say me and my locals friends, as kids, used to chat and fantasize about a Rambo or Chuck Norris figure coming along and do some ethnic cleansing. The gypsies only moved out when the city hall gave them free apartments...at the about the same time I had to ask the bank for a loan for my first own house.
DeleteNow that am an adult my position hasn't really changed from those halcyon years of infancy. Ethnic cleansing of gypsies or their forced expulsion is a-Ok by my book.
As a Libertarian I say its a legitimate use of force for self-defense. The presence of Gypsies is an act of aggression. The very sight of one is a violation of the NAP.
My first site of employment after school (1988)was in Aiken, South Carolina. North Augusta, South Carolina, only a few miles away, is the location of one of the largest Gypsy communities in the country. In that area, any construction site had to be occupied around the clock once there was more than a hole in the ground completed. Any materials were subject to theft even if demolition of the building was involved. Shortly after we moved into a house there the neighbours warned us to be on the lookout for "contractors" wanting to pave driveways, replace roofs, add siding, etc. since they were most likely gypsies. While it may not be true of all Gypsy cultures, the term "a good getter" was a complement of men in that particular group and it indicated a man who excelled at being a swindler.
