The Trouble with Ron Paul — A Crazy Uncle?

As you all should know by now, I'm a Ron Paul supporter.  That said, I'm also aware of his flaws.  Actually, only one significant flaw.  He's not concerned enough about immigration.  Oh, uniquely among the Republican candidates, he's called for looking into ending birthright citizenship, which is an absolutely necessary step to solve the problem, but he's not nearly passionate enough about that.  Oddly, a lot of libertarians of the flaky variety (see Venn Diagram) oppose him because he recognizes that we do have an immigration problem. The official dogma of the Libertarian Establishment is that borders are icky, though there are plenty of close-the-border libertarians out there, too. The other candidates, with the exception of Bachmann, all seem to be 100% into the diversity paradox — that is, this is the greatest country in the world, so what it needs is mass immigration from the crummiest countries in the world.  The worst of the bunch might be Rick Perry, what with his in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.  Why charge them tuition at all?  Isn't that kinda racist? And while Bachmann goes so far as to hang out with Joe Arpaio, a good thing, I'm afraid a Bachmann Administration might be too busy sending troops to defend Israel's borders that she won't have any left over for ours.  She's one of those Twisted Christians who think modern Israel is the same bunch that Charlton Heston helped to escape from Yul Brynner.

The other Republicans and Democrats can't really argue with Ron Paul about the other issues, because they're almost unanimously wrong about them, and he's right.  So they call him names instead.  The kindest thing they've called him is "crazy uncle."  John Derbyshire discusses this phenomenon HERE.

  1. Great post. It's funny, Obama was elected because he promised "change" and Paul is feared because he guarantees it.
