The West is declining, no question about it. We've gone from Charlemagne to Obama, from
Beowulf to
Heather Has Two Mommies, from Aristotle to Malcolm Gladwell, from El Cid to Rick Perry. Spengler would say it's a natural decline, and Toynbee probably would, too. But is it? And if it is, can it be reversed? Time was, we knew who we were and liked it that way. We also knew who our adversaries were and knew how to cope with them. What went wrong? Did we get too urbanized? Did we lose our religious faith? Too much refined sugar? Scott Locklin says it's a lot simpler than that, and that many of the alleged causes of our decline are actually just symptoms of it. While we can mostly agree on this blog that liberals are pathetic, useless scum, Mr. Locklin reminds us that the same is true of most conservatives as well. In a word, it's the decline of masculinity. Maybe that's why Black athletes in particular and Black thugs in general are revered in our popular culture. They're not civilized enough to have abandoned masculinity. Could that be why there's a tendency for Westerners to actually
convert to Islam? Because Islam's image is that of the warrior, and Christianity's image has gone from that of the Crusader knight to that of some daffy wimp bowing to MLK's statue and competing with his peers to see who can adopt the most Haitian orphans? I'm rambling again.
Scott Locklin says all this better than I can HERE.
